The Rise of Austria

When people think about music from Austria, most will think about Mozart. It is very difficult to think of artists from Austria, a small country in Europe, being able to break into the international music scene but 2019 has already surprised us and with the following artists, we think Austria will finally be on the map again as a music industry to developing and introducing the world with amazing artists.

1. Wurst (Conchita Wurst)

It was in 2014 when Austria chose Conchita Wurst to represent them at the Eurovision Song Contest. Known as the 'Bearded Lady', Conchita fought through the negativity written in the Austrian media and of course everything changed when she won the competition with the song 'Rise Like a Phoenix'.

After releasing 2 albums (Conchita and From Vienna With Love), 2019 brought a major change to Conchita and who is now known as Wurst. It is probably the biggest reinvention since Madonna and as well as a change in style of music, Wurst has a new look with shorter hair and switches between black and blonde hair.

'Trash All the Glam' was the first single to be released by Wurst and nothing was revealed in the video as Wurst was in a full-bodied latex bodysuit.

It was after the 'Trash All the Glam' video when the real shock came.

Wurst released the song 'Hit Me' an up-tempo track (soon to be an international hit in our opinion) and in the video Wurst has short blonde hair and a blonde beard.

The song was also performed at the Austrian Amadeus Awards live for the first time.

The 3rd and most recent single to be released from Wurst is 'See Me Now'

2019 will see Wurst release an album called 'Truth Over Magnitude' which will feature the three singles.

2. Brofaction

Brofaction are a duo made up of 2 brothers (Nico and Laurin) and they have been working on their music for quite a few years.
Laurin was a contestant on The Voice Kids Germany and it was then after the release of their second single  'Back At The Playground' where people really started to pay attention. The song is a feel good track and they released a fun music video to go with it.

The brothers then spent a couple of years touring as well as releasing a charity single whilst Nico continued his Psychology university degree and Laurin finished his last year at school.

In 2018 the brothers flew to the US to work with songwriters to write songs for their debut album. Some of the songwriters they worked with have written songs for Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake.

'Message To The World' is the name of the album which got its release this year. The single 'My Mind's Made Up' was promoted with a music video to start the promotional campaign for the album.

The album features a 2019 version of 'Back At The Playground' and there are also a couple of stand out tracks including 'I Ain't Giving Up On You', 'Feels Right', 'Man of No Words', 'Message To The World' and 'Love Is Magic'.

The guys performed the album track 'My Mind's Made Up' on Austrian TV and there are many more performances coming up in 2019.

3. Nathan Trent

Nathan Trent is another artist who was chosen to represent Austrian in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2017 with his song 'Running On Air' which he later released in Spanish and Italien.

Since taking part in Eurovision, Nathan has released a few singles as well as performing (acting and single) live at one of Vienna's biggest events Lifeball.

His singles have included 'Secrets' feat. J-Mox (which he also released in Spanish) as well as 'Legacy' and he features on J-Mox single 'Over You'.

Nathan has recently had his music featured on radio and television in the UK and Spain which we think are the first steps to finally breaking into the international music market.

4. Cesar Sampson

Cesar Sampson has quite a lot of experience when it comes to the Eurovision Song Contest as he sang backing vocals for Bulgaria in 2016 and 2017 before finally getting the chance to represent Austria in 2018 where he finished in 3rd place.

The song 'Nobody But You' was the song he used for the competition and it went on to enter quite a few charts in Europe.

Cesar has recently been in Spain where he attended the Eurovision pre-party in Madrid as well as being on the radio there.

His latest single 'Stone Cold' is now available on Spotify and iTunes.
